Microsoft Outlook Connector Problem

Hi,

I apologize if this has been asked and answered previously, but I could not find anything regarding this problem. I have been using Microsoft’s Outlook Connector for Domino for well over a year. Suddenly, it stopped working. First I could not send messages then, about a day later, I could not open the Domino mailbox at all. Here are the steps and problems I encounter:

  1. Create new e-mail account in Outlook (Additional Server Types → Microsoft Office Outlook…)

  2. Get presented with the Configuration dialog describing the server name (CN=/OU=<…>/O=<…>) and the path to the ID file.

  3. Offline folder settings: select the .pst file to use.

  4. Start Outlook.

  5. Twice presented with the dialog described in step 2.

  6. Try to open the mail account and receive an error dialog with the following message: “The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists.”

I think I’ve eliminated any client-side reasons through a complete rebuild of the machine (another story) but the problem still exists. I had my user.id file regenerated to rule out that. Server-side, my mail database has apparently been compacted and decorrupted.

I’m convinced this is a server-side problem but cannot substantiate my suspicions. Can anyone offer any suggestions, please? Oh, I also tried using using IBM’s connector after the problem I described above appeared. I’m having mixed success with DAMO: opening the calendar hangs Outlook, some e-mail is missing, and Outlook crashes 90% of the time when exiting. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Chris,

Hvae you checked to see if the mail database is corrupted on the server? The MS connector has a long history of doing this.

The easy way to check is see if messages are backing up for the specific user in the server’s MAIL.BOX

Hi Chris,

The first step in addressing the problem you are seeing is to upgrade to DAMO 6.5.5 Gold. This can be downloaded from the Pasport Advantage Support web site. It would be best to do a complete uninstall of DAMO 6.5.3 before installing 6.5.5.

Chris,

Have you checked to see if the mail database is corrupted on the server? The easy way to do this is to check the server’s MAIL.BOX for any email backing up for that specific user.

The MS connector has a long history of causing corruption in the mail databases.
