Messages stuck in router mail.box

I’m getting a lot of messages that are getting stuck in the router.

History: my company merged with another one and we are all using their domain for email addresses. Therefore, all of my Notes users have basically 2 email addresses (domain1.com and domain2.com). If a message is sent to domain2.com it comes directly to my Domino servers. If a message is sent to domain1.com it goes through a Barracuda spam filter and then through MS Exchange and forwarded to domain2.com. The common denominator with all of the stuck messages is that the messages are going through the Barracuda device and it’s appending [POSSIBLE SPAM] to the beginning of the subject line. Other messages that don’t get tagged with [POSSIBLE SPAM] get routed instantaneously whether they’re sent to domain1.com or domain2.com. When I see these messages stuck in the router all I have to do is choose Messaging → Route Mail and pick the server where the mail files are and the messages are delivered fine.

Big questions: Why are these specific messages getting stuck? Does Domino have some rules built-in that I don’t know about? If so, where are they and how do I stop them? Or how can I make sure these messages don’t get stuck?

Help. I can’t keep checking the router all day long and on weekends.

Are there any error messages or status indicators on the stuck messages? Or are they just sitting in the mail.box as though they should be routing normally?

Basically 4 messages that came in at exactly the same time 4 the exact same person of which only one of them was tagged with [POSSIBLE SPAM] by the Barracuda.

FYI: PMRouterB is our MimeShield Spam filter router database.

All 4 were accepted and delivered to PMRouterB, but only 3 of them were delivered to the user. The weird thing is that the messages don’t show up in PMRouterB, they show up in mail.box. And I just have to Route Mail and it gets delivered. I can’t find anything that would or should be blocking these messages.

Looking at the MimeShield logs it shows that the message was accepted and allowed because @webex.com is in our corporate safe list in MimeShield.

I have a feeling that I might be barking up the wrong tree and I’ll either have to call MimeShield or have the Barracuda admin not tag the subject lines with [POSSIBLE SPAM].

Ugh

I’m reaching here, but do you have a connection document in your Domino Directory that specifies to route mail when x number of documents have accumulated?

Subject: RE: Messages stuck in router mail.box

Yeah, but it’s set to route at once when 1 message is pending. It’s definitely not that because I can hit F9 every 5 seconds and see lots of messages pop in and out while those [POSSIBLE SPAM] messages just sit there. The good news is that it’s less and less prevalent. I only saw about 5 of them yesterday and 1 so far today. Maybe it will just go away.

Hi,

It seems to be a behavior with Barracuda. We have the same problem here. Every messages are tag with a SPAM subject.

In Barracuda, you can set the delivery priority to LOW if they are tag as spam in the subject field.

Here, every LOW priority mails are transferred between 12:00 and 6AM which is the default.

AWESOME!! Thank you so much for the solution. I’m glad I decided to check back. I set low priority messages to be delivered between 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM. Now no messages are being delayed.

Thanks again.

glad to hear that,
