Can someone explain the purpose or function of the $MessageID field in the Document Properties view?
Subject: $MessageID
It’s used for reliable message threading in mail applications. If ALL mail stayed in Domino and in one domain, one could use the document UNID – but not all mail is Domino mail. The message ID is consistent across databases (not just replicas) and across mail systems.
