Message sending timeout setting

Hi

I know that there is a notes.ini settings where one can adjust the delivery time out for incoming mails.

I understand that the domino server will retry sending the mail during those 24 hours before it will send an error message to the sender.

I have 24 hours settings because we have many domino servers and I know that some of them is been shut down during the night for backup reason.

But if the sender has send a mail to a user that is not found in the Domino directory , what happened ?

THe domino server waits 24 hours before it will send an error message!!!

Is there a way that I can adjust this matter , I mean

If the mail is intended to an wrong mail address so domno will send error right away

OR

if the address is ok and the smtp server can not find the local server for the recipent so it can wait 24 hours before it will send the error ???

Any help

Subject: Message sending timeout setting

Hi Ayad,

No adjustment needed, it works exactly the way you want it to.

If a permanent error is encountered during message delivery, such as the email address does not exist, then a NDR (Non-Delivery Report) will be generated and returned immediately.

If an error occurs that may be temporary (such as the next-hop server is not available to transfer the message to) then the message is held and retried until the delivery time-out period is reached - then a NDR is generated.

Cheers,

Vanessa
