Message rejected for policy reasons/not authorized to send mail to a group

hi,

i just started at a job yesterday where there was some sabotage by a former admin…

no one can send mail to groups. the first error message was ‘not authorized’. so i made sure on the doc properties in the nab that ‘reader and above’ was checked.

then the error message changed to ‘message rejected due to policy reasons’ but i cant find a single policy related to smtp mail to groups listed in the nab…

does anyone have any ideas and places to start that i may have missed???

thanks,

sloane

Check your server’s configuration Documents and see if there is anything related…

You might find something in the Router/SMTP section…

thanks for the reply…i looked but couldnt find anything…

where does the text ‘message rejected for policy reasons’ come from??? if i could find THAT, i would have a better idea of whats happening…

Its not a configured parameter. Usually it shows up when you block a specific Router/SMTP config in the COnfiguration Documents (did you also check the “All Servers” config doc?) or a mail rule that you may have.

Check Notes.ini for any odd parameter…

I expect that the people sending to the group are internal, but just in case they’re not…

I get those sorts of messages on the server when someone outside of the organisation does a “reply to all” to a message sent to a group.

Sound like the built-in function to restrict who can send to specific groups. Look for "Restricting users from sending mail to groups listed in the Domino Directory " in the admin help.
