I’m finding the Reports database analysis application along with the message tracking to be very limited in analyzing mail traffic.
What I’d like to do is a comparison of average message size for the messages that have attachments vs. the average message size for the messages without attachments.
This will be used as the basis for developing a document repository where users will link to Notes documents rather than attaching (and then recipients subsequently replying to messages containing) files.
Any ideas on how to perform this sort of analysis?

You can write your own agent and do this analysis against already existing emails…If you do it, take in mind that the attachments may be compressed with Huffman or LZ1.
Also if a product is an alternative, at www.notes-compression.com there are plenty of products that provides detailed reports on already existing attachments, and also on atts created on demand…
Hope this helps.

where would this agent piont to?
the mtdatastore dbs only seem to contain summary information about messages, no indicator of whether the message had an attachment or not,
any ideas?
