McAfee v8.5 and Lotus Notes Authorization

After upgrading McAfee ProtectionPilot 1.5., EPo and Virus San to 8.5i we began to get authorization errors in certain users ND6.5.4 mail databases. I could repeat the problem by using the Domino Administrator client in full admin mode updating the design of any users mail application would throw the authorization error. After the error had been thrown ounce the client was toast displaying various errors. Restarting the client would often temporarily resolve the issue. I also found that removing McAfee 8.5i from the machine and restarting would permanently eliminate the authorization issue. Not wanting to go back to 8.0i I did a little exploring.A little researched proved that only client installs including the designer client on both WinXP and Win2000 had the problem. I found that on these clients functions for McAfee scanning had been added to the Notes [Actions] menu.

Removing these lines from notes.ini and restarting the client fixed the problem;

AddInMenus=NCMenu

EXTMGR_ADDINS=NCExtMgr

McAfee have acknowledged the problem. I can’t post a link because their stupid support site design but go to http://knowledge.mcafee.com and search for document 7227825.

Subject: McAfee v8.5 and Lotus Notes Authorization - Deferent solution

After some investigations I had conducted , I found that the INI variable ‘EXTMGR_ADDINS=NCExtMgr’ is to be blamed…It tells notes to use NCExtMgr.dll file (you can find it in the Notes directory after installing McAfee 8.5.0i with lotus notes protection.

It seems to me, as if this dll is corrupted or doing something wrong.

How to reproduce:

  1. Install McAfee 8.5.0i Enterprise Edition using the EPO to a win XP station with lotus notes 6.5.2.

  2. In the notes client create a new local replica of the mail file.

  3. Send an invitation to a meeting to the user with the local replication.

  4. This user than, declines this meeting.

  5. The chair person cancels the meeting.

  6. The invitee, gets the cancellation and opens it in his local replication.

from that moment you will get ‘You are not authorized to perform that operation’ errors, and other error MSGs:

Opening a cancellation shows if the problem occurs or not. if there is red strip above the subject field there is a problem.

Trying to open a mail in the local replication will generate an Error.

Trying to open the local mail file will generate an Error.

In order to eliminate this problem and to remove McAfee lotus notes protection, use an exe file that can be found on any pc with McAfee 8.5.0i Enterprise Edition under the following rout:

“C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\NCDaemon.exe”

use the following attributes:

-remove

(or -install, to install it back)

Best to all
