I have an end user with 1,656 folders in his mailbox, and (of course) is having performance issues. What is the official amount of folders supported by Lotus?
Subject: Maximum Supported Folders
From support doc:http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&uid=swg21088734
While there is not a predetermined limit to the number of folders or views in a database, there is a limited number of handles that can be used. In Notes 5.x the number of handles is 10,495 (this is not directly related to the number of folders). In Notes 6.0 the back-end design was modified to use a different structure which results in a greater capacity before the error condition occurs.
I think, the total number the user “can have” is directly related to how well the user handles “performance issues”.
I’d try to assist this user in finding a better way to organize their data. Are they creating folders for each user who sends them email? They could use “All Documents” sorted by “Who” instead. Are they creating folders to organize documentation? Maybe that documentation should be stored in a database where it could be assigned categories instead of folders. I can’t imagine anyone can even find anything in that many folders.
