Max Search Results on the web - 250 documents

I created a customized web search for a web application on Lotus Notes 7 with the SearchMax field set to 2000. It worked fine on the LN 7 server. When I moved to a LN 6.5 server (where the application will be hosted) the SearchMax was ignored and the max results is 250. I searched on the forum and nothing came up. I also searched on the support database which only gave me a solution for the client side. Is there a workaround for the web?

Thanks!

Hi,

Did you check the “Maximum search results” field on the server doc?

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

No, where is it located?

Thanks!

This setting is on the serverdoc however the setting impacts the amount of rows returned EVERY time a view is displayed for every view on the server… not just search results… so leave it alone is the best advice.

I often reduce it to improve usability for my end-users… not increase it… only because this is global settings.

Now to address your question more accurately, you can display as many as you like, at any time, by simply stating your desire within the url.

For example:

The amount = your server’s default max settings, or less

http://yoursite/yourdb.nsf/yourview?OpenView

The amount = your desired amount (1500, or less)

http://yoursite/yourdb.nsf/yourview?OpenView&Count=1500

You can also force start

http://yoursite/yourdb.nsf/yourview?OpenView&Start=150

Combinations:

http://yoursite/yourdb.nsf/yourview?OpenView&Start=1500Count=1500

On my web sites, I provide view navigation and keep the count very low… 40 actually:

http://yoursite/yourdb.nsf/yourview?OpenView&Start=1Count=40

If it’s a categorized view, I’ll open the 1st category every time:

http://yoursite/yourdb.nsf/yourview?OpenView&Start=1Count=35&Expand=1#1

note: next/previous page buttons… fortunately, these also remember the count so users can easily get the content they want. I suggest you have alphabetical listings across the top so users can quickly get to records starting with a particular letter.

Customizing search results is another issue… sorry, I read again your question. I’ve created my own search forms when something special is needed… then run an agent to get the collection that matches their search criteria, then created a search results web page (html) using Print … line by line.Although I sounds hard, you just get a search results page you have now and view source… then remove all the stuff that doesn’t need to be there and do a forall (off your collection) to create all detail lines… make it display every one… not just the 250.

Hi Leticia,

As Stan says, it’s on the server document, unless you have the “Load Internet configurations from Server\Internet Sites documents” box checked on the server doc (Basics tab).

The limitation is set on the Internet Protocols\Domino Web Engine tab, in the Conversion/Display section.

Even if you include the “&count=500” parameter on the end of the search query, if this field is limiting your results, it will have no effect.

If you can, I would use Internet Site documents, this will allow you to increase the limit on a single website and not the whole server.

Stans idea is relevant, but an agent that performs a search, creates a collection, and then walks through 500 documents to create an HTML string is going to take much more time than a single search anyway.

Hope this makes some sense.

Andrew

Hi Andrew and Stan,

Thank you so much for the helpful tips!

I would rather not to change the server setting but the owner of the database wants me to. I’ll try to meet them halfway.

Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend.
