I have a scenario where I need a user to send and recieve e-mails using IMAP (or so I’ve heard works best with Domino).
Question is, how do I make the Notes account e-mail only, so I give it the name of the server and the username and password in say Mozilla Thunderbird and will allow them to send and recieve e-mail.
I even have Outlook Express users using IMAP to connect to Domino. Works seamless, with none of the superfluous overhead the dedicated Notes client incurs.
I should have made it a bit clearer, but I want it to be e-mail only.
When I meant “Notes account e-mail only”, I mean “Domino account e-mail only” using OE, Thunderbird, even Outlook 2003 - w/o the use of the connector, just straight IMAP.
Isn’t it simply a matter of creating a person document in the Domino address book, without registering the user and without creating a Notes certificate for the user (i.e. no id-file)? You would then (probably) enable SSL authentication for the site (or part of it), and the mail-only user logs in in a very similar manner to that which, for example, an Outlook Express or other “simple” e-mail client user uses. SMTP-server (the Domino server), user name (the name in names.nsf), and Internet password (from the person document in names.nsf).
