Mailbox Client takes 1/2 hour to open

We move a person’s mailbox from one OU to another server and OU. Everything in AdminP looks fine, but when you open the client you get to the main screen or the Workspace, but as soon as you click on the mail icon, it quickly shows that it is connecting to the right server, but the lightening bolt appears for over a 1/2 hour.

I saw this probably a year or two ago, but for the life of me cannot remember how I fixed it.

I renamed and re-created all typical files like cache.ndk, desktop6.ndk, bookmarks.nsf, etc.

HELP!

Thanks!

Does this happen every time you open the mailfile, or just the first time? How did you move the mailfile? OS file copy, adminp, or Notes client File > Database > New Copy? What do OUs have to do with it?

If it happens every time, then the database probably contains corruption that is requiring a consistency check upon every open. Normal database maintenance tasks should resolve that.

If it happens only the first time and you moved the db using an OS file copy, then the database would require a consistency check before being opened, which would take a long time for a large database, especially if the server is overworked/underpowered.

If it happens only the first time and you used one of the other copying methods, then you are probably waiting for the Inbox index to be built when opening it – but a half hour index time would indicate either a 30 GB or large db or an incredibly underpowered server, so I doubt that it’s that.

Resign the folders in the user’s mail file with the server id or an admin id. This should solve the problem (has to do with unread marks).

Thank You! That is what it needed, I remembered after you posted!

Thanks again for the quick response!

Also, a load convert -u mailfile.nsf will work too. This will replace the folder design with the inbox design thereby replacing the signatures on the folder elements and not changing any other signatures on other items such as the out of office agent.
