Mail to external domain goes internal

We are trying to send an email to an external address (eg: john@acme.com). However the domino bounces the email back saying that john@internaldomain does not exist (ie: its trying to deliver the email internally). It somehow translated the address to go internal.

We only have problems with this one address. Sending mail to any other external address is no problem. Just this external domain name is causing problems.

is it really the domain name?we had the problem that the user had ‘a shortcut’ in his private adress book. this was poiting to the internal address. so if you send a mail and your location setting is ‘look local’ or something similiar the lient changes the receipient.

if thats not the problem may be you can check logs of the server.

what does the router exactly do with this one mail?

Its not the local address book as everyone has this problem when they try to send mail to this domain. Looks like somewhere along the line the external domain name is being converted to our internam domain name.

so go and check what the mail router says. you should be able to trace the route of the mail and also where the name changes

Apparently this is all it says:

Router: Unable to deliver message 0030E671, 0030E671 to ha33@extdomain.com

23/07/2008 09:44:32 User ha33@extdomain.com

not listed in Domino Directory

extdomain is an external domain name. We can send emails to other external domains ok.
