Mail Specified Agent does not exist

I am trying to track down the cause of a very unhelpful message when replying to mail. Not every mail but some. And Not New mail. From my Inbox

I have :

  • replaced Mail Design from the template
  • Upgraded all the Folder Designs
  • Run fixup -F
  • Run compact -c
  • Tried Lotus Script debug.
  • Tried all debugging parameters in the ini file I know
  • Checked design for any locked / private design elements
Nothing gets me close to understanding “what agent is trying to be opened”

No other messages are shown

Can somebody please help me get closer to this issue.

Subject: Update

It is customised. What I am really looking for is identifying what agent is trying to be launched. But I will try your idea. Currently this is my own personal experience after upgrading to 9.0.1 when it was working fine on 8.5.3. I may try putting back the 8.5.3 template and see if that helps. Mail templates are supplied by the company.

Subject: Re: Mail Specified Agent does not exist

Hello Pete!

Are you using a customized mail template?
Is it happens with all users or a specific user?

My suggestion is replace mail design template twice.
I means: replace with a different template (for example: Personal Address Book), so replace it again with a Mail Template

Best Regards!

Subject: Don’t replace a mail template with a non-mail template!

Never replace a user’s mail template with a non-mail template. You run the risk of losing the contents of the inbox, if not other folders.

To do the double replace, replace the design with an older/different mail template, then again with the current.

However, what I found seems to work better is to use the Convert command to upgrade (repair) the user’s mail file design - ie. ‘load convert -u mail\taylor.nsf * dnawm853.ntf’,

…where ‘dnawm853.ntf’ is the current mail template. Not only does it ensure the design elements are the correct level, but the folders as well. Since I started using ‘Convert’ a couple years ago or so, I haven’t used the ‘double replace’ trick once.

Subject: Search mail design in Designer

Since Designer is in build on Eclipse now, you can search the entire template design (or specific design elements if you have narrowed it down) for keywords that cause agents to run like ToolsRunMacro, NotesAgent, RunAgent, etc.
