Mail sort order not staying in 8.5

I have my mail sorted in date order with newest mail at the top but if I click into a folder then back into the inbox the order has gone back to the default (oldest emails first) and I have to change the sort everytime. I can get round this by changing the template but would rather not. Anyone else seeing this?

Subject: Re: Sort order with 8.5

What template and version are you running on your mailfile?

Subject: Re: Mail sort order not staying in 8.5

I thought you had cracked it there Dan as I was on version 8.02 but even after replacing with 8.5 the problem is still there. This never happened with the betas.

Hello,I have exactly the same problem on a Mac OSX client.

Subject: Re: Sort order not staying with 8.5

I am personally running the Ubuntu Linux client and have had no experiences of this nature from Beta through Gold releases of 8.5. I quickly tested on both the Windows and Mac clients and was unable to reproduce the behavior an those releases either.

This leads me to suspect a potential issue with your mail database itself. I have often see these cleared up by running database maintenance (fixup -F and compact -cdi). Failing that, you can also try to create a Notes copy of the database locally before replacing your database on the server.

No luck Dan, tried fixup and compact and also a new copy but still the same. Also tried on another PC with the same result. If I open another users mails file I get the same problem although I’m not sure if this was always the case or not. I’ve ran out of ideas.

There are three of us trying 8.5 and we all have this issue. We all upgraded from 8 to 8.5. I tied the uninstall off all notes and install from scratch and it stillhas the issue. We are using the install that has Designer and Admin as well as the Client.

Subject: Re: Sort order not staying with 8.5

Interesting, I’m using the all clients install as well. Think I’ll give it a go with the Notes client only and see if that helps.

Subject: Re: Mail sort order not staying in 8.5

I’ve just done a complete uninstall of Notes and reinstalled but still no difference.

Subject: Maybe a fix?

I had a user with this and after lots of messing with it (and making sure the Retain sort order setting was checked) I closed Notes, renamed his bookmark.nsf to .old and then went back in. Notes created a new home page which I had to fix, but his sort order is now retained. Might not work for everyone, but it worked for my user!!

Subject: Same thing with me

Running 8.5 on a Vista Ultimate machine. Sort order keeps reverting back. I have tried replacing the mail design as well and it doesn’t fix the issue.

Subject: Are you using the all clients install or just the Notes client?

Subject: All Clients

I used the All Clients.

Subject: Looks like a bug in the all clients install

I have done some experimenting. No changes to the mail file throughout, on template 8.5 all the way through.

First of all I went back to 8.02 and everything was fine, sort order stayed as set.

Next I installed the 8.5 Notes client only and everything was still OK.

Lastly I installed 8.5 all clients and it all went wrong again!

Something I did notice is that there is a ‘Lotus Notes 8.0.2.msi’ file within the 8.5 all clients package. Probably nothing to do with this but it looks a bit strange.

Subject: Curious if this helps?

Setting the following option:File->Preferences->Basic Notes Client Configuration->Additional options section->Retain View column sorting

Subject: Thanks

Seemed to do the trick.

Subject: So far so good

Thanks for the help. I have never had to worry about that in past versions, so I was unaware of that option.

Subject: Yep that got it!

Strange why this setting seems to be unticked if you do an all clients install but ticked on a Notes client only install. As long as it works though I won’t argue.

Thanks Phillipe
