Mail server keeps forwarding user's mail following removal from directory

Following the resignation of a user from our org, I set up a month of mail forwards (via agent) on mail file to new address. After a month, I removed the user from the directory, then backed up and deleted the mail file. However, the user still receives mail at his new address that has been delivered to the old, seemingly deleted account. Our mail server continues to accept mail for him and forward it even though he has been removed from the directory. I removed him from the directory using the delete method in Domino Administrator. Senders to the old address should be receiving “undeliverable” messages. I have restarted the server and rebooted the server since the change thinking that perhaps the entry is cached somewhere. Any help or advice?

When you delete a user from the Domino Directory an adminp request gets created, which triggers a chain of other requests, one of them a mailfile deletion request, which needs to be approved. Did you check the admin4.nsf database for pending approvals? If you don’t approve the request, things get stuck at that stage…
