Mail Sending - Notes Error suddenly appearing after more than 2 years

We have been running a Domino server for almost 3 years now for only browser based applications. Users do not have a Notes client. In the Domino directory everyone is specified as Other Internet Mail, with their internet address specified in the forwarding and internet address fields.

The applications send out workflow email. This has been working for years. The applications haven’t changed in at least 8 months.

Suddenly the other day we started getting Notes error messages, and the emails stopped being sent.

The messages in the log are:

01/31/2006 04:14:14 PM Agent ‘WebQuerySave_Assessment’ error: Notes error: You do not have a mail file/server specified. Use File Mobile Edit Current Location… to set them.
01/31/2006 04:14:33 PM Agent message: saving again
01/31/2006 04:14:34 PM Agent ‘WebQuerySave_Assessment’ error: Notes error: You do not have a mail file/server specified. Use File Mobile Edit Current Location… to set them.
01/31/2006 04:15:04 PM Agent message: saving again
01/31/2006 04:15:05 PM Agent ‘WebQuerySave_Assessment’ error: Notes error: You do not have a mail file/server specified. Use File Mobile Edit Current Location… to set them.
01/31/2006 04:15:50 PM Agent message: saving again
01/31/2006 04:15:50 PM Agent ‘WebQuerySave_Assessment’ error: Notes error: You do not have a mail file/server specified. Use File Mobile Edit Current Location… to set them.

Can anyone point me in a direction to resolve ?

Thanks, Tom

Try checking that the Mail Server field in the Server Location section of the Server doc lists the server name, i.e. Server/ACME.

You might also be able to check whats changed in future by using our free change product, at http://www.ionet.co.nz/change

Subject: SET CONFIG MAILSERVER= … – Mail Sending - Notes Error suddenly appearing after more than 2 years

Use the console command

set config mailserver=server/dom

(obviously, use your server name in the above)

The error “…You do not have a mail file/server specified…” has been typically found to occur because the MailServer parameter in the server’s Notes.ini is found to be reset to a null entry, for example: “MailServer=”. This has been observed in cases where the Domino server has been running for a long period of time without being restarted. This issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# BTLW69P4RG, and has been fixed in Domino 6.5.5 and Domino 7.0.

OK. The server still needs to be restarted! Even when doing the SET CONFIG command, it keeps resetting so this is only a stop gap solution.

Yes, I know that upgrading is the right answer. I’m ready to jump directly to R8.0.1 which was supposed to be out by now!

I’m having a similar problem. A weekly server agent that sends an email reminder worked last week, but received the “do not have a mail file/server specified” error. I checked the Notes Named Network value and the Fully Qualified name as directed in the technote, and it appears to be working.

The second technote says to issue a “sh config mailserver” command. This errors out as an invalid command for me.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
