Mail Rules Rant

Normally I don’t rant but this one was very frustrating and I’m sure it will help someone else out there.

The Problem: Mail Rules- Deleting, creating them, dealing with ghost mail rules

The Solution:

http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/46dom.nsf/0/878ccb1938d1780685256e2900144b9c?OpenDocument

Additional Caveats:

-Turned off soft deletions (not sure if that had an impact or not, but it’s worth mentioning)

-Disabled all rules, ran the cleanup script in the above link, re-enabled them.

The main thing seems to be you can’t delete an “enabled” mail rule as the formula is compiled in a calendar profile document (huh?!?). So if you delete it it’s stays there and gets processed.

This is the most counter-intuitive thing I’ve seen in a long time. After scowling at a frustrated users, my assumption was he was doing something wrong, he did everything intuitively right. Only after digging through notes.net (if notes.net didn’t exist many of us would be really up a creek…) did I find the right path, but not after wasting about 1 hour of time.

I wouldn’t rant but this seems to have been a problem since R5!!
