Mail Rule to mark documents as read?

This has been asked on this forum several times before but never answered (That I could find anyway). 1. I have a mail rule that moves messages that I get from a particular domain into a folder for backup.

  1. Its held there for 1 month at which time a mail rule marks it as “expired”. The next time the database is archived the expired items go with it.

How can I also get the rule to also remove the unread mark for the document in addition to what it does above? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t think you can do that through Mail Rules. This can be done programmatically, and your best bet is probably a LotusScript agent (see the 3rd parameter on the Save method on a NotesDocument).

You’ve described 3 different times a doc can be touched by a mail rule in this process: $Inbox → backup folder, marking as “expired”, and archival. I would bet that each update by a mail rule would set the unread flag on. Keep that in mind if you do write your own agent. Where you really care about not seeing the unread mark will tell you when/where you want the agent to run. It may need to run more than once on the same doc.

Thanks David, I figured since nobody was responding to others cry for help, it probably wasn’t possible.

Hopefully Notes will take that into consideration for a future release as it would be fairly easy to implement and backwards compatible.

My solution was to write a “simple agent” in designer that ran when new mail arrives. I added a selection formula, then moved it to the appropriate folder, then marked it “as read”. It works perfectly, but is nearly impossible for a user without Domino Designer to implement.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
