Hello all,As a office we’re relocating in a few months, our external mail for the entire business goes through a Domino mail server at here as does the business’ internet.
As part of the move we’re keeping the mail server with the office but our internet and firewall will be moved to a central location (Which also stores out Domino Admin server).
My question really is ‘can we keep our mail server based at the new office despite our firewall and internet connection moving to a different location, or will we need to change our mail server to the Domino admin server mentioned above?’
Subject: mail routing question
your question is a little confusing because you mention moving to another office and state that the mail server is staying at an office (assuming current). then you state that you want to keep your mail server at the “new” office. Doesn’t make sense.
But I’ll see if I can help anyway. If you have 2 servers at different locations and they need to communicate with each other, of course you’re going to need an internet connection (or private line) at both locations. Maybe you already have something like that - you didn’t specify. As long as the 2 servers can communicate with each other (wherever they may be), you should be able to do whatever you need to do.
Maybe if you can provide more information on your setup, I or someone else can help you further. (use descriptions like Office1, Office2, DataCenter1, etc… and stick to them. And include current internet / firewall setup, current mail flow, and then planned internet / firewall setup and planned mail flow).
Don’t be afraid to be descriptive, just make sure that it’s crystal clear.

Cheers for the response K O,
Ok simply put, our Domino mail server sits at our head office along with our company firewall and internet connection (All areas of the business access the internet thru this line and all external mail comes and leaves thru this too).
As we’re moving the internet connection and firewall to a different location (Which also has a Domino server) will we need to change our current mail server from the office location to the new location (IE change the Domino server which receives and sends external mail)?
- OR will the Domino servers be smart enough to rout the mail automatically? (Release 6.5.3)
