Mail in loop Error. Please help!

Hi,I have a Domino group with name “abc” with few members, another group is “xyz” with few members in it too. “xyz” is also a member of “abc” group. All groups and members are configured on “internet address” for email.

If i send a mail to abc group and cc: the mail to xyz group. Domino returns back the mail with Looping error for xyz’s address. No member has forwarding set to back to any group or email address in groups.

Can someone explain how it is possible and how looping occurs.

Thank you

My first question is, if “xyz” is a member of “abc,” why would you send email to both groups?

First test: does the problem occur if you don’t cc “xyz?”

Second question: does the group “xyz” have it’s own internet address, i.e., “xyz@domain.com?”

Second test: if it does, does removing that address solve the problem. If it doesn’t, does adding the address solve the problem.

I really think this has something to do with how “xyz” is set up. Hope this helps.

Thank you for Reply,

Its a common practice from different users around who are not aware of structure of both the groups. But have been instructed.

First Test: No problem doesn’t occur if xyz is not included in cc.

Second Question: Yes both groups belong to same domain and have internet address i.e. xyz@domain1.com & abc@domain1.com

Second Test: No, Removing the xyz@domain1.com from abc group doesn’t resolve the problem. Adding doesn’t solve the problem as it is already included in the group.

That is what i am really confused about. xyz works fine with other groups. Does it have to do any thing with domain name (domain1.com being same or something?)

Really appreciate your concern and help.

Thank you.

Hi again

Just fixed the problem. Writing down what i found

Using internet address of xyz group is not a good idea in abc group. I put group’s NAME as member in abc group and it worked.

Still if some one could explain (with some reverse engineering) what was actually happening, I shall be really grateful.

Cordially,

Mani
