I would be very grateful if anyone could advise me how I can open my mail from my works pc, which has LN 5, on my home pc running a new copy of LN8. I have copied the b_name.nsf and l_name.nsf files to my home pc into the data folder but nothing opens in the mailbox. Thanks

There may be an incompatibility issue here. As far as files you want to copy over, it should be your bookmark.nsf,desktop8.ndk (or it may be desktop5.ndk), and of course your ID file.
Another idea that usually works is creating a new location document where you switch to when at home.
I have a 7 client on home PC but an 8.5 client on work PC.
The home location document should almost look exactly like the office one with a few minor changes.
The Location name needs to be different
This is the key here, bring a copy of your User id home and save it to your home PC. On the advanced tab of the location doc. there is a User ID to switch to field which you put the path to your user id into that you brought from office.
