A client of ours has a mail domain name with a couple periods in it (“C.L.IENT”). Apparently, when sending SMTP mail outside the local Internet domain, the router is supposed to convert all Notes hierarchical names in the header to RFC-compliant addresses so “Reply To All” functionality works for people outside the Domino domain. However, because the Domino mail domain has periods in it, Domino makes a the horrible assumption that this is already an RFC compliant address and does not bother converting other addresses in the TO, CC or BCC field.
Am I missing something or is this a big fat bug in the Domino routing process? Shouldn’t the router first compare everything after the “@” to MAKE SURE it isn’t a Notes Mail domain, and then check to see if it is RFC complaint?
Either that, or do not allow periods in mail domain names.
Does anyone have an answer or workaround here? Other than renaming the Domino mail domain name?
