When I look at the document properties of an email, the Posted Date shows 09/24/2003 04:42:32 PM AST and the Received shows Thu, 25 Sep 2003 06:43:27 -0500.
My question is why is there such a discrepancy
in the delivery time. It almost took over 8 hours to receive the message.
Actually, if I’m reading your message right, it took ELEVEN hours – from 4:42 PM Atlantic Standard Time on 09/24 until (if I’m translating “GMT minus 5” correctly to mean Eastern Standard Time) 5:43 AM Atlantic Standard Time on the 25th.
Possible issues include incorrect clocks in one place or the other, or a delay at any one of a number of points along the route. Is this an internal or external message? What do the “Created,” “Sent” and “Added to this File” say? What are the time stamps in EACH of the “Received” fields?
I have often been able to diagnose at what point the message got hung up from looking at the received fields, which tell you when Server A handed off to Server B, and so on. It’s especially helpful when you don’t know whether the delay occurred at your company, or the external sender/recipient’s.
