I have developed an application skeleton which I use to create Notes mail based surveys.
Basically:
You use the skeleton to make a new database
Do some design changes to reflect the questions
You configure other aspects by data - e.g. the target set
press a button to send the questionnaire (as an email to the users with an embedded form)
Users Rx it and can fill it in in their mail file (including offline)
their answers are returned via a mail in database record
Results are displayed in views etc.
BTW: I call it a skeleton not a true template because I have to make design changes to reflect the different questions and also extra views need.
Despite this limit, I’ve reused the technology successfully over half dozen times working with R5.0.12 and 6.02 and 6.5.4 clients - saving an awful lot of development.
However some of the test users for my next use are using 6.5.5
and though they receive a similar email the questions don’t appear for them.
Use a R6.5.4 client to access the same document - and voila there are the questions -
The key point is that these questions are all carried on a subform and though the email must carry this data the R6.5.5 client simply does not honor it
There are no visible error message, no ECL warnings … nothing
I cant find any info on the IBM site nor in this forum
tho’ of course my searches may be flawed :=(
has anyone else come across a similar issue?
I’ve further verified the issue by copying and pasting the fields etc from the subform directly onto the questionnaire form
That works even for a 6.5.5 Client
But I need to use a second results form to display the returned data
and the easiest way to create that was t use a question subform.
Now I’m faced with maintaining the questions in two places
(or at least manually copying and pasting each time I make a change during development/testing)
Any help will be much appreciated
