Our Linux Admins asked if the mail.box can be placed either outside the data path or in a seperate sub-directory.
The reason is that the want to use a designated mountpoint for our mail.box(es) on the zLinux System so they can more easily manage the size of the data-path (as a seperate mount point).
So there are two questions:
-
Is this possible? E.g. with an ini parameter that directs to the possition of the mail.box or a directory line? Other ideas?
-
Even if this is possible, does it make sense or will we create more problems (e.g. less performance)?
Thanks
Harald
Subject: Benefit ?
Which benefit do you expect from re-locating the mailboxes ?By default, the mail.box(es) ar compacted at midnight by the router task or you submit the following command :
tell router compact

Subject: Performance
Our Linux Admins say that this should improve performance as the have easier control over I/O operations on the OS.
In addition in an emergency (e.g. mount is full due to a mailloop) the danger of crashing should be smaller. They say that the data directory ist most sensitive to crash if the mount is 100% full.
Not sure if this is correct as I am not a Linux specialist.
Thanks
