I have been having problems with one of my mail boxes on the internal mail server. It is configured to have 3 mail.boxes. Approx 3 weeks ago, mail1.box started to grow in size - one minute would be 3 MB in size - next thing it has corrupted and grown to 50 GB! We thought at the time that we had isolated the issue to some dead messages that were sitting in the mailbox. However, that isn’t happening anymore and we are still having the problem. If you watch the file through windows explorer, it is growing by the second. Goes up approx. 1MB every couple of seconds.
Things tried:
-
Shutdown of server and deletion of mail.boxes - dosen’t fix it.
-
Tell router compact - might reduce the size for a moment, then starts to build up again.
-
Load compact mail1.box -B. This seems to reduce and recover up to 91%, then instantly starts building up in size again.
-
Switch off other services on the Windows server to see if they are having an impact ie CA BrightStor backup facility, PCAnywhere etc, dosen’t do anything to stop the mail.box growing in size.
-
Stopped other Domino server tasks but dosen’t change it.
-
Compact task at 4am runs - on average is taking 1 1/2 hours to complete due to size of mail.box, however dosen’t show that it is recovering any space.
Also a problem when the database grows too big - compact can’t run over it because “network operation did not complete in a reasonable amount of time”
So something seems to be using up whitespace in the mail1.box - but I can’t work out what? The other two mail.boxes don’t seem to grow in size…?
Any suggestions or help from people that have had similar issues?
Thanks in advance
Rach
