Mac version HAS spotlight support

This is unexpected and very sweet. It is not documented in the release notes nor the product help AFAICS.

Here’s some screenshots:

Option-Apple-Spacebar:

  • showing the “kind” of items indexed

~/Library/Caches/Metadata:

  • each indexed nsf has a folder named with the db’s replica id

Inside each folder are xml PLIST files named according to the unid of the indexed doc. One file for each doc. Here’s an example - its contents is property/value pairs of relevant searchable info like the senders/recipients/content/subject of an email

Subject: Search is ok, but

…when I click the respective found item

nothing happens. Is Notes supposed to open the item - that’s my expectation

Subject: Yes, it should be opened by Notes.

Thanks for you feedback. I have a few questions:

Have you meet this problem with other searched out entries or just this one?

Is Notes running when you click the entry?

Did you clean install Notes or upgrade from an older version?

And, the last question is, have you kept multiple Notes applications on your System?

The new installed Notes will register itself to open the searched result. If you only kept one Notes application and it didn’t reflect to your click action. There may be some launch service issue. Try to drag Notes.app to another folder and then drag it back to /Application to see if it’s workable.

Subject: Thanks for the Tipp

Have you meet this problem with other searched out entries or just this one? As wel with other contentIs Notes running when you click the entry? Yes

Did you clean install Notes or upgrade from an older version? Upgrade

And, the last question is, have you kept multiple Notes applications on your System? No not at runtime

The new installed Notes will register itself to open the searched result. If you only kept one Notes application and it didn’t reflect to your click action. There may be some launch service issue. Try to drag Notes.app to another folder and then drag it back to /Application to see if it’s workable. → That solved the issue (quit, move to desktop, re-launch)

Subject: No Google desktop anymore

Hope this will be truth for the Mac, Spotlight support would be great, hope the same will happen on Windows, I’m bored of using that resources blowing Google Desktop Enterprise…

Subject: The formal spotlight configuration UI will come out later.

Subject: Spotlight is supported in this public beta

Spotlight is supported in this public beta. You can enable it via menu Actions->Desktop Search…
