This problems seems to be across the board for all versions of Mac OS-X and Notes 6.5.0 all the way to 6.5.2; but I was not able to find any reference to a similar error on this website.
When we install the Notes 6.5.x client onto a Macintosh OS-X computer, the installation itself goes fine.
The first time we go to run Lotus Notes, the following error appears:
Unable to open Name and Address Book (names.nsf), due to the error ‘File does not exist.’
Then it shuts down.
Names.nsf does not exist, because Notes is being opened for the first time. Instead of taking you through the configuration process where the names.nsf is created from the pernames.ntf template, the client just closes down.
How can I get the client to start in configuration mode so it will run properly?
We are installing to the \Applications\Lotus Notes\ folder. This has happened on both Jaguar and Panther machines, with versions 6.5 to 6.5.2 of the client.
I appreciate any assistance you can give. This happens even on Macintosh computers that have successfully run the 6.0.3 client in the past.
Thanks for the reply Steve. We blew away everything we could find as far as Notes folders and then searched for any preference files with the name “Lotus” or “Notes.” Can you tell me specifically where to look and what to look for? Seems like even when we delete all that stuff and do a fresh install we have the same problem. It has also happened on machines that had never had Notes installed to begin with.
What I’ve found is that I need to set full read/write access to the entire Notes folder and its contents for the owner, group, and other to have setup work properly.
If I don’t set these permissions, Notes gives me several errors on startup. Perhaps this is what’s happening?
