System: PowerBook G4, OS 10.2.8, Notes 6.5 client.
If I don’t use Notes for, say, an hour – it’s just running in the background – it may go to sleep. Each of the following start with Notes in the background, either docked or perhaps in an open window (but not the active foreground).
Example 1: I know I should have received some messages, but I have not heard the new-message jingle. If select Notes in the dock, then I get a jingle and the status bar says I have new mail – and then Notes takes maybe a minute to show a simple message.
Example 2: A message arrives and I hear the audio jingle. I select Notes and get the beach ball for a couple of minutes prior to seeing the message.
Example 3: I select Quit. Beach ball, and perhaps a message “the network operation timed out” (or something like that). I select Quit again, and it quits.
Once Notes wakes up it’s fully responsive, and functionally everything else is fine, so this is really just an annoyance. It’s like I have to slap it around to get its attention.
So far as I can see you can do nothing , I think its because it is the way Notes/osx looses the connection with the network. Somewhere, there is a timeout going on. And the connection will only stay valid when it is the foreground app. I did see this behaviour also, and did check with.
Proccess (Manager) - select Notes - Menu-process and inspector and moment…
Maybe you see some intereseted things there. I did find out that it was busy with the network for a log time.
I’m afraid this problem is not platform related. I have the same kind of problem using a Windows 2000 notebook…
When Notes wakes up and is not able to find the server anymore, I just use the Ctrl-Pause keys to break the connection and try again to connect. It then works…
Any idea what the key equivalent is on the Mac? I have an apparent network timeout issues with Notes <= 6.03 on a certain machine. My only current recourse is to crash it.
