Subject: Same problem here
I’m also experiencing this problem. MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.3
Subject: This is a known issue in public beta 1, possible workaround…
This is a known issue in public beta 1 addressed by SPR JLLU7ENCS5.
You can try the following 2 workarounds:
Drag you Notes icon from Finder to Desktop, and then drag it back. Then you can launch Notes via double clicking on Notes icon.
OR
Subject: Still won’t launch
I tried both work arounds, but Notes will still not launch.
Subject: Need more infomation
1.Before you installed 8.5 Public Beta 1, what is your previous version of Notes?
2.Before you installed 8.5 Public Beta 1, did you uninstall the previous one?
Subject: Re: Need more information
Prior to install I had the first 8.5 Mac beta installed.
I did run the uninstaller and made sure all the items from Application Support, Preferences and Receipts were removed.
Subject: upgrade from previous public beta is not supported
Could you please kindly do a clean install 8.5 Public Beta 1 again, and before that you should make sure these files listed in the following are removed. Thanks very much for your support!
/Applications/Notes.app
/Library/Receipts/Louts Notes Installer.pkg
/Library/Receipts/xpdcoreinstaller.pkg
/Library is on your system volume, for example Macintosh HD → Library
Subject: Already tried uninstalling and reinstalling
As mentioned in my previous posting, I ran the uninstaller as recommended in the release notes and removed the files that were recommended in other posting in this forum. I did not try to upgrade from the previous beta because this was specifically noted in the release notes.
When trying to launch Notes from Applications, I receive the following error in the Console.
6/4/08 8:31:23 AM [0x0-0x6a06a].com.ibm.lotus.Notes[1036] maclauncher: unrecognized option `-psn_0_434282’
Subject: maclauncher works, moving the Notes.app doesn’t
Starting the app from maclauncher or by running the Notes executable in the container works, though running the executable first starts Terminal and leaves it running until the Notes client is exited.
Moving the Notes.app from the Finder to the Desktop and back appears to do nothing.
Subject: Archive & Install fixed the problem
After trying many things to get Beta 1 to launch properly, I decided to try Archive & Install on my Mac. This fixed the problem. It’s very possible the problem with Notes was due to some internal OS problem.
Thanks for the help.
Subject: Archive & Install?? Yikes.
I have been having similar frustrations with installing the “Public” Mac Beta (after some success with the previous Mac Beta), including that the Uninstaller wouldn’t launch, manual uninstall didn’t do the trick, etc. An Archive and Install seems like an awfully drastic solution to get this thing to run! I have reluctantly given up on the Mac beta and am currently switched to 8.1 Windows client under Parallels.
