Low availability index

I have a new server (quad core, Windows 2003 64 bit, Domino 32 bit, HP G5) with 4GB of data and and lots of free disk and the server AI is very low. I have modified the SERVER_TRANSINFO_RANGE from 6 via some tries to 14 but the AI is not higher then 60 (I reached some improvements (from a range 0-30 to range 30 - 60)). The physical server is running at not more than 15% CPU and not using very much RAM and I can’t figure out why this happens. At night time the AI is not higher then 60. Another Windows 2003 (32 bit) Domino 7 server (HP G4 server) with more Notes users is always between 80 and 100%.

So I can’t find any performance problem.

Why is the AI so low?

Thank you in advance

Manfred

Subject: new servers do that

“The expansion factor is determined by comparing recent response times for specific types of transactions to the minimum time in which the server has ever completed the same types of transactions…Domino stores the minimum time for each type of transaction in memory and in the LOADMON.NCF file, which the server reads each time it starts. When the server shuts down, Domino updates the LOADMON.NCF file with the latest information.”- excerpt from Admin Help file

In other words, when a server is new, all it has to compare it’s availability with is what happened when it first started up and no users were hitting it. Therefore, any new transaction when there are users on it will be slower, and it’s availability will a lower number.

Since this is updated when the server shuts down, then theoretically shutting down the server after it has had a period with many users on it should mean that the next time it is up the availability index will be more accurate.
