LotusScript compile error: "Cannot Subclass NOTESDOCUMENT"

I was under the impression that product classes could be extended starting with 6; however I never tested it.

Referenced from Notes/Domino 4 and 5 forum: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/46dom.nsf/55c38d716d632d9b8525689b005ba1c0/7a7129447c7fb94785256c320069c118?OpenDocument

Currently using domino designer 7.0.2, and when I attempt to extend the NotesDocument class I get the error:

“Cannot Subclass NOTESDOCUMENT”

I’d like to be able to do this:

Public Class B2Bdoc As NotesDocument

’ … my additional methods and constructor overrides

End Class

However this won’t work. I know I can work around it by simply NOT extending the class (and incorporating a NotesDocument object within my class for the implementation); but doing that requires that I add wrapper code for every property / method, which I would prefer not to do.

Does anybody know if this capability is in Notes / Domino 8?

Hey,

Sorry for the short response, but it’s not possible. The Domino Object Model would be all over the place if people could rewrite methods for each class.

Cheers,

Why! is that a strange answer!Andrew, were you part of the Lotus development team at the time?

And why do you make it sound like it was a bad thing to extend the Domino classes? If it makes life easier for everyone, then why not?

I came here after a search because I was surprised that this limitation is still imposed in Domino 9.0.1, even after IBM implemented the open mentality regarding Notes and Domino…

Rats.

Does anybody know if this will be available in Notes / Domino 8?
