Agreed. Much better than most MS Office products.
Subject: Lotus Notes
This is a really small question that takes a really big answer because Lotus Notes is so much more than just email. From a user perspective the learning curve is pretty short (once they learn to navigate a view in one application everything (usually) works the same everywhere else. The developers side is a different story. First up a person can build an application with very little experience. On the surface development is really easy. I have taught a modest power user how to build an application in an hour or so. However, the Notes/Domino environment is such a powerfull tool that after 10 years of development work I still am learning.
Setting up a Domino server is pretty much a point and shoot situation, and you could have a server up and running in a few minutes. But, to fine tune and optimize the server takes some experience. As with any system planning is the issue.
I think I could have a 10 - 20 user Domino system up and running in a day or so with users running email , C&S and some simple databases. (There are several really good templates provided (free) that can be used either as ready made applications or as the starting point to build more complex applications).
If you are new to Notes/Domino and are looking to get started I would strongly recommend hiring a local partner to comein and spend a few days with you to get things set up properly. I have been called in to help on several occassions to fix systems that were not set up properly and that is much more difficult than doing it right the first time.
I believe that Notes/Domino is one of the most under-rated and under-used systems out there. It pains me to see it compared to Exchange as an email system. Email is such a really boring application, Notes shines when it is used to transform corporate culture.
