I am writing because I am finding a lot of issues in a trial to use the Lotus Notes in a Macintosh Network. To be more exactly, I don’t really know if I am going in the right direction. I am not sure about a lot of things, 'cause I’ve never used notes in Mac platform … For example: I don’t know what type of port I should be using. On the Mac notes client there is only the TCP/IP port… Can I have more port options, like LAN (NetBIOS, IPX)?? How?.. If not, should I configure something to make the client access the server which is installed in a PC*, using TCP/IP … *could it be the reason of the incompatibility? The thing is that I am not sure if this type of network should work for Notes… Is there any Mac server version??? Well I guess I went to far with my questions…

I can’t answer your exact question, but I have previously had R5 Mac clients working on the R5 Domino server. We needed no “special” mac changes to the server itself & just accessed the server using TCPIP (NetBios is very windows & IPX is novell so you will not get these ports as default). All the connection documents and location documents were exactly the same as our pc clients (which also accessed using the tcpip port).
The only issue that we had at the time was a problem attaching files from a novell server - it hung the client so we had to copy them locally and then attach them. This may well have been fixed in R6 but I have no way of testing.
We no longer have mac clients but I would be surprised if you now needed to do something extra.
If you really can’t use a TCPIP network (is there anyone out there who still doesn’t?) then I guess you could use IPX by downloading the novell client for Mac. Not sure about Netbios but no doubt there is something out there that will allow you to communicate using this.

There is ONE thing to verify on your domino server, is the attachement encoding type. (there is a tech note about this on lotus.com, but I can’t find it just now)
There is no longer a Mac server version. This is “strange” as we are using more and more Xserve / Xraid because there price is so damm right. So you will need to have a Win? / Linux boxe for domino
Also, we have found that, since upgrading to Domino 6.03, attachement made on a Mac could no logner be read on a PC (file truncated error). There is another person reporting this too. We did not get an answer from IBM on this problem…
