Lotus notes does not syncronize password with Widnows

We have the following issue:

When the Service Desk resets a user`s password throught Active Directory (because the user lost their password), then Lotus Notes prompts for the old password and there is no synchrinization between Notes and Windows 2000 login.

Note: If a user change their password throught Windows, the synchronization works perfectly.

Is there a way to overcome this problem without having to hand-in the Notes .id files to the service desk?

How to enable and disable the same issue

To Enable synchronization:

To synchronize your Windows NT/2000 password with your Notes password, you must uninstall Notes. Then use the following procedure when you reinstall Notes. Note if you are uninstalling Notes, make sure to back up important files that you might need such as your bookmarks, Personal Address Book, and User IDs.

Note If you use a Smartcard to login to Notes, or if your User ID is protected by multiple passwords, Windows NT/2000 password synchronization is not supported.

To install and enable single login

  1. While installing Notes, choose to install “Client Single Logon Feature” in the “Custom Setup” dialog box of the “Lotus Notes 6 InstallShield Wizard,” and then finish installing Notes.

  2. Launch Notes to set up the Notes Client.

  3. After Notes has been set up, change your Notes password so it matches your Windows NT/2000 password. Note that when you choose File - Security - User Security, the option “Login to Notes using your operating system login” is enabled by default in Security Basics.

  4. When you have changed your Notes password to match your Windows NT/2000 password, exit Notes and restart your computer. When prompted, login to your computer using your Windows NT/2000 password. When you launch Notes, you should not be prompted for a password.

Note Once the single login feature is installed on your computer, you can enable and disable it at any time.

To change your synchronized password

When synchronization is enabled, you can change your synchronized password at any time. Whether you change your password through Windows or through Notes, the passwords synchronize so you can use the new password the next time you login to Windows or Notes. To change it through Windows, refer to Windows Help. You can change your synchronized password through Windows only if your Windows and Notes passwords already match. Otherwise, you must change it through Notes. To change it through Notes, see Changing passwords.

To disable synchronization

  1. Choose File - Security - User Security.

  2. Click Security Basics.

  3. Uncheck “Login to Notes using your operating system login” under “Your Login and Password Settings.” You do not have to change your password. Once you disable the synchronization, you have to enter your password when you login to Notes, rather than being able to open Notes without entering a password.

To enable synchronization again, check “Login to Notes using your operating system login,” and make sure that your operating system and Notes passwords are the same.

Note If Notes imposes a password history requirement (choose File - Security - User Security), click Security Basics, then click the “Change Password” button for information on your password history), then you may have to choose a new Notes password. Notes changes your operating system password to match.

To completely remove the single logon feature you must uninstall Notes. When you reinstall Notes, do not install the “Client Single Logon Feature.”

In Lotus client there is one option might be helpful

Go to File-Security-User Security & put the current password.

In Login and your password settings there is one option

Login to notes using your operating system login please unchek this settings and click on ok ok and relogin in notes.

THanks and regards

Hello,

Thanks for your reply, but I think I didn’t explain the problem clearly.

What we want, is for the Windows password and Notes password to automatically get synchronized, after the Windows password gets reset throught Active Directory.

The option “Login to notes using your operating system login” is active and we need it to be active, but apparently it only works when users change their password themselves and NOT when the password is changed throught Active Directory (Sirvice Desk).

Thanks

Notes Single Logon does not work like that. The passwords get synched via a service that runs locally on each user’s computer so it will only work when the user changes their pwd themselves.
