Lotus Notes Connection With Mainframe

Hello All,

I have a requirement of connecting to a mainframe server and reading the code in the Mainframe .

I wanted to know whether this can be acheived using lotus notes?

Regards,

Subject: Yes.

Since IBM zSeries (which is a mainframe) can run Domino, that should not be any problems. Of course you can have a Notes client on say the Windows platform talk with Domino on a mainframe.

But as Carl wrote, you need to specify your question a little bit better.

I am going to go out on a limb and make a few educated guesses:

  1. You work for a consulting company, or a company provinding outsourcing of development.

  2. You don’t have any/very little Notes/Domino expertise.

  3. You have been asked to do something in Notes that has to do with data stored on a mainframe.

  4. We can expect a number of questions in the near future about how to do certain things in Notes related to the application you are trying to develop.

  5. Many of the questions will ask for complete code samples, because of item 2.

How close to the truth am I on item 1-3?

You might want to hire someone who actually knows Lotus Notes/Domino. We have plenty of good and experienced developers here in the US.

As with everything else, you get what you pay for.

Subject: Well Mainframe is a very broad term and your question is pretty useless because of it’s vagueness.

I assume you know a little more detail than that, otherwise you should back away and leave the job to someone that understands what they are doing.

So in keeping with the vagueness of your question, the answer is Yes.
