Lotus Notes - Automatic in-line spell check for different languages

Hi,

We have recently installed Lotus Notes across a small company which is used to using Outlook. We’ve had quite a few complaints which I wanted to raise here to see if there is a way to solve or workaround the problems. I’d certainly prefer not to go back with “Outlook is better”

  • User regularly type in 3 or 4 different languages. Languages been installed in 8.5.1 and work successfully for the selected language. However, Outlook is able to auto-detect which language you are typing in and switch to that for in-line spell checking whereas users in Notes need to go File > Preferences > Spell Check > Change… Any ideas?

Thanks

Ian

Subject: May be a feature

I am not sure if the way Outlook works is totally reliable

The spelling engine do not know if the word “address” is a french mispelling, or a good english word.

So to my knowledge there can only be one default language for spell dic in Lotus Notes, as to release 8.5.1.

One way to work along is to manage the languages of the text.

You have to highlight the text, and right-clic / properties.

Then indicate the language. Afterwards, run you spell checker, it should work.

Hi Fabrice

This is a very useful response. I had no idea the language paragraph tagging existed so I’m sure the guys will find this useful

Thanks very much

Ian
