Is there any way to run Lotus Notes client as a service on a 2003 server? I haven’t been able to find anything abou this in the forum. Help please.

Why?
Subject: RE: Lotus Notes as a Service
We have an application that runs on the server that needs to send mail out. We’ve installed the notes client onto the server to deal with this. We want to have the client to continue to run even when there isn’t an account logged on - hence a service.

But surely the server will just send the email out? This is the point of servers after all…

The client is installed on a database server that is NOT a domino server and doesn’t have domino installed at all on it.

Ah, I see.
Did you see this post on the forum?
It’s about Win2K but might be relevant, at least some of the ideas given.
Failing that, and depending on the database server there might be ways of setting it up just to use an SMTP service to your main mail server. eg for SQL server run outlook configured to send mail via SMTP through your mail server (but then you don’t say what type of database it is).

Thanks - I’ll give this a look and see if it works. Unforunately SMTP service is not an option at this stage - office politics!!!

If you have Domino on a different server, why not use an applet like BLAT…
…and just point it to the IP Address of your domino server?
I’ve got some things doing that successfully.

Hi
Let me translate what you said :
-
no Domino
-
need to send emails
-
need it to be on bg
Why don’t you just write an application that does it ???
Why do you need Notes ?

I can see why you need a client to be installed, but I’m not sure I understand why it needs to be running as a service.
As long as the application is installed, you can use the API (either CAPI, C++ API, Java or COM) to create and send your mails. This does not require Lotus Notes to be running. It just requires a client installation, an ID file (to get access to the server), and a password for the ID file (or an ID file without password if this machine is well-protected).
cheers,
