Lotus notes always connect to server when I open my local replica of mail database

When I work in my home, my Lotus Notes Client connect server via VPN. and I used a modified “offline” location.

comparing with default “offline” document, I changed the following setting:

Network type changed from “No connection” into “Local Area Network”

Sending Email changed as “via Domino Server” when [1] message pending.

I feel so strange, everytime, I try to open my lcoal replica of mail database, Lotus Notes client try to connect my home server. If remote server is not reponding. Lotus Notes don’t reponese to my any action.

who can help me to explain this case? How do I improve my Client setting to avoid this case?

Subject: Other Configuration Questions

In your quasi-offline Location document, on the Mail tab, what is in the “Mail file location” field?

You have configured this Location document so that it expects an always available connection to your Domino Server if you are telling it to route mail to the Domino Server when there is one pending message. So there really shouldn’t be an issue about opening the mailfile on the Domino Server, I would think.

How are you opening your local mailfile? Are you clicking on the Mail shortcut? Going through the Application Open dialog box? Clicking on an icon in the Workspace?

Subject: It works as expected when I use Lotus Notes 8.5 Basic

However, When I use Lotus Notes 8.5 Basic, and my Lotus Notes work normally without trying to connect domino server when I open the local replica of my mail files.

Is it because of Java Eclipse plugin of Lotus NOtes 8.5?

Subject: I change offline location in order to make is work as the Internet Location before.

  1. In Location Document, mail’location, I slected “On Local”

  2. I open my mail database via clicking the icon of “my mail database ON Local” in my work place.

Subject: I Would Suspect Confusion On Your Workspace

If you are in your Workspace and clicking on the icon for the local replica of your mailfile and your Notes client is attempting to open the replica on your Home Server, I would suspect some confusion on your Workspace. If this issue is present in the Standard client but not present in the Basic client, then the likely suspect is the something in the Workspace subdirectory.

I don’t understand all the details of what goes into the Workspace directory, but here is a link to a discussion about how to clean and reset your Workspace directory:

Also, there is a warning there about some potential issue that you might see.

Subject: I don’t think so.

Your pose expand my knowledges of Lotus Notes. However, for my issue, I don’t think so. I have new findings, when I use Lotus Notes Basic, client don’t try to connect Donino server. I guess, trying to connect domnio server is because of new feature based on eclipse. Such as, quota indicator.

Subject: Something to Check Again

One of the differences between the Basic and Standard clients is where they store/get some UI information. The Standard client uses the Workspace directory for some things and the Basic client doesn’t. At least, that is my understanding, I don’t have specific knowledge that this is true, but it is the working assumption that I would go with.

So, if you use the Basic client, it might well be avoiding the confused part of your workspace that only the Standard client can see. This fits the behavior, so it might be worthwhile trying that cleaning/replace recommendation posted earlier.
