Hi, I’ve seen several emails on whether Lotus Notes for mac works with Mavericks. Thought I’d post specifics:
Lotus notes 9.0.1 works perfectly with Mavericks. 9.0 does not work. The 9.0.1 port was released by IBM on Oct 29. You can download it here http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/fixlist.nsf/(Progress)/901 → you need an account to download it. If your enterprise uses LN your IT will have access details
click on uninstaller to remove current lotus notes (will retain all data files)
click on installer to install 9.0.1
After you install the client, it may be possible your sametime does not work - it may respond with a “client not authorized”. This will happen if your server is not upgraded to recognize 9.0.1 clients. To make it work, your sametime server needs to update it allowed clients lists (VPS_ALLOWED_LOGIN_TYPES)
Subject: Start with a fresh Lotus Notes Data folder
I removed the Lotus Notes Data folder from the user/Library/Application Support folder and relaunched IBM Notes and it started after a prompt for the user’s id to be pulled from the Domino server, basically starting from scratch. The user loses all past data, like customized folders and archives and such. But that worked. I needed to move the names.nsf file from the old folder back into the new one. Then I was able to move the older user’s ID file and .nsf file back in, restoring previous archives and custom folders.
I am wondering if a corrupted cache file or remnants from an older version of notes is the problem.
(updated from 01/30/14)
So far a theory I have formed has held true. My problem installations were on workstations of fellow workers who have been here longer than 4 years. Subsequent installations of Mavericks and updating to IBM Notes from Lotus Notes 8.5.3 have been trouble free on workstations for fellow workers who have been here under 4 years.
So perhaps it is remnants or some corruption from a much older version of Notes residing in the user’s Lotus Notes Data folder that has tripped up some of these installations.
Subject: Works in Admin account, but not user’s account
I have installed IBM Notes after the manner Arjun mentions here, and it worked on my iMac, but not on two iMacs that I installed it onto.
It runs fine in their Administrator accounts, and accesses their info and mail from our Domino server, but it will not run in their user accounts. If we trash the IBM Notes .plist file and
go through the setup for the user, then it gets to the point of saying the Setup is complete, then it will crash and not launch any more.
I upgraded to 9.0.1 following the instructions below (and successfully upgraded) but here are some of the issues that I am facing. I will be thankful if I can get some advise. 1. Loosing focus every time I delete any email. That way, I have to take my mouse cursor back and put it on next email to read it. In earlier version, after I used to delete any email, it used to put the focus on the next email above or below it. I have preview pane open. 2. I cannot delete multiple emails by selecting them. Same with moving them into any folder. One by one operation is fine. Bulk move or delete does not work. Similarly, bulk selected mails to move to Archive does not work. Automatic archive (based on date) works. 3. Out of every 10 emails that I read which come from internet addresses (not from my company address), meaning outside senders vs senders from within the company, Notus crashes for say 3 times. For company emails, it is fine, but 3 out of 10 outside emails causes Notes to crash.
Fair enough. I don’t use Spotlight indexing - in general lotus notes for mac is an abomination in terms of speed compared to the windows version (irrespective of which version we are comparing). I found LN 9.0.1 on mavericks to be as responsive (or as less responsive) as LN 9 on mountain lion.
I’d say that Notes 9.0.1 on Mavericks is more buggy than 9.0. It seems to burn up a lot of processing time when you’re not doing that much. I also notice the Desktop Search feature still has a bug, where the databases you select become corrupted after a while.
See:
Notes will often just hang doing who knows what. So you have to close it and restart. Geez, this is surposedly or a 9th generation (or more) email client. No wonder everyone is using a web browser or other client…
