Lotus notes 8.5.2 not working remotely

So I have this issue where if I install Lotus notes client 8.5.1 or higher (8.5.2) when I am out of my office it says it can’t get to the connection of my domino server. I also notice its pointing to our internal address. My domino servers are version 8.5.2. If I install the regular 8.5 client the issue is not there. I can thus use e-mail in my office and out of my office. Is there some new setting in the domino client I’m missing? I remember in the notes 7 client there were the server phone numbers which I edited to that external users could connect.

Subject: Try location and connection doc

May be you should create another connection doc which specify the external name of your Domino server.

Create extra location for out of office usage and specify the connection doc with external domino server name would also be choice.
