Appreciate anyone out there to give me some advise on the following lotus mail issue.
Previously, my remote(local site) operation users used to dial in to my company’s lotus mail server using the Windows dial up access method. They will start the replication once the dial up is up and connected.
However, they have subcribe to this broadband plan currently. My doubts is how can I make use of this broadband connection speed to link their lotus mail to the lotus mail server.
I have try setting the new connection in the
‘local address book–>Advanced–>Connection’. Configure it as ‘Notes Direct Dialup’ and ‘Network Dial up’. Both of these option can’t work. Replication cannot be carried out. It would say ‘Server not responsing…’
Pls kindly give me some advise as how should I configure the client side for it to link to the lotus mail server using this broadband access. Any ways to be done for the user to perform the replication successful???
Please direct me where can I find the function to cater the above mentioned issue.

The connection type should be LAN with TCP/IP, and their connection to the server should be made using the external IP address of the server. Both ends (theirs and yours) must allow connections on port 1352. Most broadband accounts allow it, your firewall must as well.

Dear Mr Stan Rogers,
Appreciate your advise on my doubts.
As mentioned from your advise, you indicated the port 1352. Is this port that your are refering to is the port from the firewall or is suppose to be configured in the domino lotus mail application that is installed in the server???
And if it is from the Firewall, how can I apply your method or any other methods if my company don’t use any firewall device.
(Only a broadband router.)
Secondly, the external IP address that you have mentioned, is it refering to those static public IP address???
Subject: RE: Lotus mail replication using broadband link
Port 1352 is the port that Notes uses. If you have no firewall, then `352 is open (you are using Notes successfully, right?). Yes, the IP address is the public IP address of your server. If you are already exposing your server as a web server, then you can also use your fully-qualified internet address and let DNS handle the connection.

Dear Mr Stan Rogers,
Appreaciate your previous advise.
If my company don’t use any DNS and my current lotus mail 6.5.2 server is just behind the broadband/DSL router and suitated in the LAN area whereby internal users have access to it.
And is not expose like those Web server which you have mentioned in your mail.
In such a kind of environment, how can I allow users from outside to link to this mail server using broadband link???
Please pardon me as I am not really good in lotus notes.

If your ISP has given you a static IP address, then just give that address to your users. They would enter that value in the “Destination server address” on the Advanced tab of the connection document for your server on a connection document. Make sure that the connection document is set to be valid only for the Internet location.
Subject: RE: Lotus mail replication using broadband link
Dear Mr Stan Rogers,
If I have a public static IP address, WHERE and HOW can I assign this public static IP to the lotus mail server so as to allow the users to get connected to this server using this public static IP address as mentioned from your mail??? Assign to the NIC, or lotus mail configuration or…???
Pls advise.
If I don’t have any of this public static IP address, can I say is not possible for the user from outside to get connected to the mail server using broadband access link??
Subject: RE: Lotus mail replication using broadband link
If you have a router, you can assign which internal IP address is assigned to listen on which port(s).
No, if the users can’t be pointed to a specific location, they can’t connect. If there’s a static IP address, no problem. If there’s a public DNS that can tell them what the current dynamic address is based on a server name, no problem. If there’s no for them to get the address of the server, big problem.
Subject: RE: Lotus mail replication using broadband link
Hi,
I have a similar problem, I want lotus clients reach the domino server from internet environment to check them mails.
I already open the port 1352 in the firewall and I have an static public ip address pointing to the domino server.
But when I configured the internet location on my lotus notes and create the connection on the address book option, it still isn’t working.
What else can I try to made this kind of connection??
The public ip address should be the same as the one you can use to open you´re mail via web?
for example I have mydomain.com.mx as public ip address and if I want to access my mail via web I shuould have a link like this: mydomain.com.mx/mail/myname.nsf ???
