I installed 8.5.1 on a mail server the other week. Domino would start then crash immediately. After I set the Lotus Domino Diagnostic Service to Manual(it was set to automatic), Domino started. This is a new feature for 8.x. What does this service do and why did it prevent Domino from starting?

We have had the same problem on several servers.I raised it with IBM and was told that it is only required when there is a problem on the server, then it can be enabled to gather extra diagnostic info - so leave it set to manual. Weird, as it seems to CAUSE problems!! It seems to be set to automatic by default in new installs so one to be aware of if you set up a nrew server

There should be something particular from your environment or they already fix it because I’ve installed several 8.5.1 in labs and no problems.
But I dont recall ever using that service. Maybe they cange it to manual already and thats why?

I also installed 8.5.1 on other servers and had no problems. I wonder is there is something peculiar to the server that caused the Diagnostic Servic to go haywire.
