Lotus Domino and SAP

We use SAP in our company. I’m pretty new to Domino but am the Domino Administrator for the company. I don’t know anything about SAP. We have some users that want to be able to email from SAP externally. Internal email works fine from SAP. Their question for me is, when they send external email from SAP, why does it bounce back to their Lotus Notes first and they have to resend the email? I have read about Lotus Connector and other similar integration tools, but my question is, do I need any of that, or is there something else that can be done for just sending email externally from SAP?

Thanks,

Where is the email originating from? Is it from SAP client/user’s machine, or from SAP server? There could be two entry points to Domino mailing system:

  1. SAP users are also registered users within Domino domain, having an email address and email box. In this case users can initiate mail from their client machine and can be sent to Domino mail server dierctly, without going via SAP server.

  2. SAP users are not registered in Domino domain. Mails orginate from SAP server, and forwarded to Domino mails system. Domino mail server need to be specified as mail gateway in SAP mailing configuration.

I’m sorry, I guess I didn’t explain it correctly. Our users that use Sap with the company also have Lotus email with the company. They want to email documents from Sap to external customers. Their email address, when sending in Sap is the same as their domino address. When sending email from Sap internally, it goes right through. When sending externally, it bounces back to their inbox and they have to resend it from their inbox. They want to know why it doesn’t go directly through our domino server from Sap to external email addresses. I didn’t setup the Sap email feature so I don’t know how it’s setup but would like to have a little knowledge before I try to help them get this working. Any help is appreciated.
