Lotus Approach and Notes Database

Hello, My boss assigned me a task that is designing a Notes project instead of a Lotus Approach database.

I do not have a chance to use Lotus Approach before, what should I do? any suggestions and ideas please.

Thanks in advance.

Are you saying that you will be converting an existing Approach database to a Domino database?

Have you used any relational databases before? Are you familiar with the way they work? What is your level of Notes/Domino expertise and understanding, in particular with Design and Security of Domino databases?

I haven’t used Approach in years myself, but the place to start is with your forms. Look at all of the tables in the approach database, the relationships between them, and take a lot of notes on this (the paper kind). List all of the fields, if they are visible or hidden, the datatypes, any computations, and so on. This should help you flesh out what should be in the Notes forms (documents) and views as you design them.

The data migration will be a little more involved than this and things to consider are will it all happen at once or will you still be updating the Approach database while the Domino database is in use?

Maybe there are other resorces on Internet, but for me this was enough to understand how Lotus Approach works:http://jabrown.customer.netspace.net.au/approach/

Have fun!
