The mail teplate is verry slow.I have tested it on my laptop (core2duo 2.2Ghz,2GB DDR2, nvidia nv130) and on my desktop (e8400 3000Mhz,2Gb DDR2 2066,7200HDD, nVidia 9600GT win.xpsp3)and I can’t work like this. switching windows like going from workspace to mail is 50% slower than on my lotus 7.0.2 client!
I have to decide if I say it is ok for upgrade on more than 2000PC and 8servers and it is not looking good.
Mail Template should look more clear in the left side (like openntf.org template) and must have more info for the user. (disk usage,% of free space)
CPU is going from 8% → 40+% just by switching
windows inside the client.
Subject: Sometimes the question is not ‘faster or not’ but ‘still fast enough or not’
I guess the decissions you have to do are not easy ones - And I whish you to go for the right way, whatever it is. The differences of spead you report don’t seem to be way different from what there was from 4 to 5, 5 to 6 or 6 to 7 - It was the hardware catching up in the 2 or 3 years inbetween, I feel that made the difference into actually a faster system right now than back then.
If switching views in the inbox eats up CPU for a second or so, I would guess this to be caused by the layer of Java most likely used by Eclipse for the inbox. Is this true for your custom apps, too?
On the other hand you are saying ‘I can’t work for this’. Sounds like a statement from a way different experience then the one I am having here. Are you sure you are using 8.02 or 8.5 Beta2 for the testings? -Those two versions are optimized for speed (especially for starting of the client, to me a more critical point).
Is this ‘inacceptable slow’ happening in disconnected mode with a local replica the same? - Otherwise it might be your test Servers only (or the network they are in).
I’d personally think R8 is without question ready for prime time - at least for me it runs quite well, and is definitely fast enough in all situations, too, on similar hardware…
