I have just upgraded from the client version 6.5 to 8.0.2 and the new user interface is not there. It looks the exact same is 6.5. I was able to change the mails display to Mail (R8) and get the new look in the mail, but the workspace and application still look sad. Is there any way to fix that?

The Basic client does not include the Eclipse Framework which is the one you probably saw.
You need to get the Standard Client.
