Lose Inbox on Upgrade

My administrator has asked me to locate a tech note regarding not using the convert utility while upgrading from R5 to R6. The issue would be to then upgrade to R8, apparently there is something where the Inbox disappears. Unfortunately that is all the information she gave me to search for this thing haha. Any thoughts, TIA…
