It appears that once in a while the client or the server ‘forgets’ where the server is when accessed by name. A port trace shows an attempt to connect to the server is made using its private network segment’s IP number which is not accessible to the clients (on the public segment). We will be using this private IP number for clustering later. Using the explicit IP number to open the server and the required database results in the status message “… asking the address of from server x …” (the very server the databse is located on) and then it all works and continues to work for another couple of days.
If you have any suggestions for stopping this behavior I’d be grateful.
