Hello world,in the last days sometimes one of my servers went down and because I am not always staring at my admin client I noticed it only 15 minutes after my users noticed it.
How to prevent this unfortunate situation ? Is there a very good (the best) admin tool that will give me a warning sound or a flashing light when one of my servers went down ???
Thanks a lot
Peter

If you haven’t already, look at using the Domino’s Event task to monitor your servers. Open up events4.nsf and look in the Admin client help for more information. You can create Domino probes to monitor server availability, tasks, and individual statistics. I’ve found Domino’s own monitoring options to be sufficient, especially in multi-server installations.
If possible, use two Domino servers for monitoring. One to do the actual monitoring of statistics, servers, and tasks, and another to ‘monitor the monitor’. You can have them notify to a database, a pager, internet e-mail, and more. With Domino 6, Domino probes are a little better…they notify when the server comes back up as well. I get notified by pager whenever a fatal event occurs and it’s never failed me.
Another option to look into for minimum hassle is fault recovery. Usually by the time I get my first page, our servers have already restarted themselves using Domino 6’s native recovery capabilities. Plus, you can set it up to mail the NSD information to a Fault Report database for review or submission to IBM support.
Good luck!
